The Presidential Medallion

On April 13, 1966, on behalf of the Board of Regents, Charles Harrison presented President Mark F. Scully with a sterling silver medallion in recognition of his 10th anniversary as President of the College. The medallion would thereafter be a symbol of the Presidency and be passed to each succeeding President of the institution.

It leads the procession during each commencement, and the focal point of this six-foot ceremonial staff is the seal of the University surrounded by a wreath of excellence. The mace was designed and constructed of black walnut by Win G. Bruhl, former assistant professor of art at Southeast Missouri State University.
