Southeast Journalists Earn Top Awards

Southeast’s student newspaper, The Arrow, continues to win awards. The paper received 18 awards during the 2020 Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) Awards Ceremony and another six during the Associated College Press (ACP)/College Media Association (CMA) Fall National College Media Convention.

“I believe our wins reflect our students’ ability to tell stories across platforms,” says Dr. Tamara Zellars Buck, faculty advisor to the The Arrow and chair of Southeast’s Department of Mass Media.

The Arrow was recognized for photojournalism, in-depth, investigative, sports, and feature writing as well as page design and multimedia storytelling in the MCMA awards.

In addition to excellence in design, the ACP/CMA recognized The Arrow as its inaugural first-place winner of the Online Pinnacle for “Best Campus Engagement” for a two-hour event, “Let’s Taco ‘Bout Freedom,” that highlighted the protections of the First Amendment.
