Southeast Students Help Solve Cold Case

Southeast students cracked the case! A team of Southeast students and faculty were able to solve a real-world cold case in Southeast Missouri. Dr. Jennifer Bengtson, associate professor of anthropology, and her students, identified human remains found in a farm field near Charleston, Missouri in 1979. The remains had been classified as “unidentified” and turned over to the University. The case went cold until Bengtson and her students “rediscovered” the case in 2013. Supporting Front-Line Workers

Faculty and staff in the Department of Engineering & Technology engineered personal protective equipment (PPE) for the local healthcare community. Using 3D printers and a laser cutter in Southeast’s Otto and Della Seabaugh Polytechnic Building, several shields were delivered to facilities to help those on the frontline in Cape Girardeau. Because Houck Field could not be utilized for its normal fall sporting events, in October 2020, Southeast Missouri Athletics and The Bank of Missouri teamed up to transform Houck from stadium to theater in a series called Nestflix. Each Friday in October, a special feature movie was shown on the massive state-of-the-art videoboard. Open to anyone, guests were able to sit socially distanced on the field or in the stands to enjoy the makeshift outdoor movie pavilion and keep the cheering alive in Houck. Learn More...
